Leadership Franklin honors Mary Mills with Caroline J. Cross Award
Mary Mills is the recipient of this year’s Caroline J. Cross Award, presented by Leadership Franklin. Mary, a lifelong Franklin resident, spent thirty-nine years as a teacher at Johnson Elementary and as Principal at Franklin Middle School. After retiring from the school system, she once again served her community as Williamson County Commissioner for seventeen years in the 11th district. Mary is an active member of the African American Heritage Society and has been affiliated with the Williamson County Chamber of Commerce, Williamson Medical Center, Community Childcare, and the Williamson County Health Council. Leadership Franklin is a nonprofit organization to develop leadership and community engagement and further a vision for Franklin and Williamson County. Battle of Franklin Trust Announces Slavery Tour at Carter House and Carnton
The Battle of Franklin Trust announced new tours on the subject of slavery to begin on September 12th. The tour, entitled “Slavery and the Enslaved” will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Carter House and Carnton. The tour will focus on slavery as an institution and specific individuals who were enslaved at each site. The tours will take place at Carter House on Tuesdays and Carnton on Thursdays. Tickets are $25 and the tour will last approximately ninety minutes, beginning at 10am at both sites. For additional information and to book a tour, email Meagan Wuest at meagan@boft.org. A. Marshall Family Foods Claims Five ‘Stars of the Industry’ Awards
