Recent Brentwood Academy Alum Earns Gold at 2023 Pan Am U20 Championship

Track and Field phenom Mensi Stiff, a 2023 graduate of Brentwood Academy brought home the highest honors at the 2023 Pan Am u20 Championships in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. The prestigious competition pitts the best under-20 North, Central and South Americans in track and field against each other. Mensi earned first place in the women's shot put with a toss of 16.70m or 54 feet, 9.5 inches. The throw was nearly two feet further than her TSSAA state record-breaking mark set in April and five feet beyond the second-place finisher. It was also the fourth-best throw in high school history in the Unites States.

In June, the nine-time state champion and Ole Miss signee became the only track and field athlete in history to win three Tennessee Gatorade Track Athlete of the Year awards. The Gatorade award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Mensi as Tennessee’s best high school girls track and field athlete. Mensi also won the shot put at the Nike Indoor Nationals this past spring after capturing the 2022 Nike Outdoor Nationals title in the event.

“It’s easy to look at the stats and see that Mensi is an incredibly gifted athlete. It is a privilege to have had her as a part of the Brentwood Academy athletics program, but what we are most proud of is how Mensi used her time here at BA to serve her classmates and in the community. She is a young woman of character, and we are excited to see her succeed at the collegiate level,”  shares Jason Mathews, Brentwood Academy Athletic Director.

Earlier this year, Mensi was the recipient of a Tennessee State Senate proclamation for athletic, academic and community service achievements. She is a published poet and author as well as a member of the Brentwood Academy Student Ambassador Program. She has volunteered locally on behalf of the Sarah Cannon Cancer Center and at New Hope Academy serving low-income families. Mensi has also donated her time rescuing abused horses and nursing them back to health in addition to serving as a vacation bible school and Sunday school teacher each week for a kindergarten class at Church of the City.
