The Woodward: Geneva's Lakeside Jewel

Sitting gracefully on the edge of Lake Geneva, The Woodward is a rare kind of place: small in scale, but grand in every sense. Geneva’s first all-suite hotel, and a proud recipient of Three Michelin Keys; it feels more like a private residence than a traditional luxury property. With just twenty- six individually designed suites, all offering sweeping views of the lake and the distant Alps, it’s a haven of quiet elegance in one of Switzerland’s most cosmopolitan cities.

Originally opened in 2021 by the highly regarded Bastion Collection, The Woodward is housed inside a landmark Belle Époque building from 1901, with its original post-Haussmann façade still standing proudly along the waterfront. In late 2024, a new chapter began. Auberge Resorts Collection took over management, bringing its signature warmth and attention to detail as the hotel entered a fresh era of luxury beginning  in February of this year.

Inside, the design by Pierre-Yves Rochon is classic but never stuffy. Sunlight pours through oversized windows, catching on marble fireplaces, hand-painted wallpaper, and the soft shimmer of lake-inspired blues throughout each suite. There’s a sense of thoughtfulness here; from the marquetry paneling to private elevators for the top suites, that makes it clear this is not luxury for show, but luxury for living.
Food and wine are central to the experience, and The Woodward delivers in ways few hotels can match. The crown jewel is L'Atelier Robuchon, the only two-Michelin-starred restaurant in Geneva, while Le Jardinier by Michelin-starred chef Alain Verzeroli offers a lighter, plant-driven menu that still feels deeply satisfying. There’s also Bar 37, a piano lounge perched on a glass enclosed veranda with a perfect view of the Jet d’Eau, and a moody cigar lounge tucked inside what was once a grand bank vault. For a more casual outing, Le Comptoir Woodward, a café and patisserie in the nearby Old Town, serves up pastries that are worth the short walk.

Wellness gets just as much attention. Two full floors; more than 1,200 square meters, are devoted to Spa Guerlain, a light-filled retreat offering exclusive treatments from the legendary Parisian beauty house. There’s also an indoor pool, the longest in Geneva at twenty-one meters, surrounded by sleek stone and soft natural light, plus a top-tier fitness center and hydrotherapy facilities.

With Auberge now at the helm, The Woodward has introduced a range of curated experiences that bring Geneva to life in new ways. Guests can sail across Lake Geneva’s vast blue waters, sip wines from the UNESCO-listed Lavaux vineyards, dive into Swiss watchmaking traditions, or even craft a custom fragrance as a memory to take home.
The city itself is an invitation to wander. Geneva is built for walking, and visitors can spend a leisurely afternoon drifting between cool, air-conditioned museums like the International Museum of the Red Cross and Red Crescent - a timely visit in an era increasingly shaped by global change. Or, they can head to the lake’s lively beaches and decks, like Bains des Pâquis, for a swim, a sauna, or simply a sunny afternoon watching boats glide across Europe’s largest freshwater lake.

At The Woodward, it’s all right there—the beauty, the history, the light—waiting just outside your window.
