Acclaimed author and Franklin resident Bob Ravener released his highly anticipated historical novel, The Faithful Servant: The Mysterious and Extraordinary Life of Officer Frank C. Smith, on April 24, 2025. Known for his deep-rooted commitment to business leadership, community service, and historic preservation, Ravener brings readers an evocative tale of honor, sacrifice, and corruption set against the backdrop of early twentieth-century America.

Inspired by actual events in the life of Ravener’s grandfather, The Faithful Servant follows Frank C. Smith as he faces the harsh realities of an unprepared nation’s build-up to World War I, followed by a compromised  New York City Police Department in the throes of Prohibition and the gangster wars of the 1920s and 1930s. Torn between his duty and a system that threatens to unravel everything he stands for, Smith’s journey spans from the brutal trenches of war to the gritty streets of New York City. His internal battle is fought not just for justice – but for his very soul. Future iconic figures first emerge during these trying and turbulent times in America.

“This story is about more than just one man’s struggle against the forces of evil,” says Ravener. Set during a time when our nation was navigating seismic transformation, it’s about the resilience of the American spirit, the complexities of loyalty, and the difficult choices that define us. I intend for readers to learn about a tumultuous period in our nation’s history and question what they would do in the face of moral uncertainty.”

Ravener, a United States Naval Academy graduate, U.S. Navy submarine veteran, and businessman, has built an impressive military service, corporate leadership, and community advocacy career. His first book, Up! The Difference Between Today and Tomorrow Is You was published in 2013 and is available on Amazon. Now, he steps into historical fiction with The Faithful Servant, delivering a gripping narrative that resonates with today’s readers.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ravener has been an active leader in Franklin, serving on multiple nonprofit boards, including Friends of Franklin Parks, the Downtown Neighborhood Association, and Franklin’s Charge. He is also a Downtown Franklin Rotary, VFW, and American Legion member. His passion for history is evident in his past work as Vice-Chairman of the Franklin Civil War Historical Commission.

The release of The Faithful Servant is a proud moment for Franklin’s literary and historical communities. The book is available at Landmark Booksellers and Amazon.
