Williamson County High School Girls Take The Flag Football World By Storm

The Tennessee Titans, NFL, NFL FLAG, TSSAA and Williamson County Schools make up the small army backing Tennessee’s very first girl’s flag football league. Female high school students in any of Williamson County’s nine public schools are eligible to play in an eight-game season in the Spring of 2022. Teams will play once a week for six weeks before the league championship, which is tentatively scheduled to take place at Nissan Stadium in May 2022.

“We are excited about partnering with the Tennessee Titans and offering another athletic option for the young women in Williamson County Schools,” said Darrin Joines, District Athletic Director, Williamson County Schools. “We are honored to serve as the pilot district for Tennessee and look forward to making Girls Flag Football a part of our high school athletic programs during the 2021-22 school year.”

TSSAA and NFL FLAG, the official flag football league of the NFL, will partner with the inaugural league in planning, training, and guiding the season. NFL FLAG aims to empower young athletes through non-contact football and unite communities throughout the country.

This is the largest, most recognized flag football organization where male and female athletes compete while wearing official NFL gear. Additionally, women are making history in the flag football world as the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) launched the first college-sanctioned women’s flag football league last spring.

Girls flag football has become one of the fastest-growing sports in high schools. The sport has offered many opportunities for young women who have a passion for football, and we can’t wait to cheer on our very own local high school teams next spring!
