Celebrating Craftspeople of Tennessee

Tennessee Craft presents Craft Continuum... a response to items in the collection of the Williamson County Archives & Museum, an exhibition featuring work by Tennessee Craft artists from across the state. Hosted by the Williamson County Archives & Museum, the exhibition will be on view August 31^st through November 12^th.

Exhibition Curator, Sherri Warner Hunter, selected handcrafted objects from the WCA&M historical collection and then selected and invited Tennessee Craft artists to create or submit work responding to those objects. The artists are challenged to find connections through shared materials, techniques, function, history or contemporary

interpretation. The resulting exhibition creates a conversation between historic craftsmanship and the work of today’s Tennessee makers, demonstrating how craft traditions continue to evolve while remaining connected to the past.

An opening reception was held September 4^th, during Franklin’s First Friday, coordinated by the Arts Council of Williamson County. Craft Continuum is presented as part of the American Craft Council’s Handwork: Celebrating American Craft 2026, a nationwide initiative showcasing the importance of the handmade, celebrating the 250^th anniversary of American crafts and craft artists. Handwork 2026 brings together organizations, educators and makers across the country to celebrate the diversity of American craft and the people and stories behind it. Tennessee Craft is a featured Participating Organization.

Tennessee Craft’s mission is to encourage, develop, and promote the crafts and craftspeople of Tennessee. Through this work, they advance the rich tradition of handmade craft as a vital cultural and economic driver by elevating fine craft and artists, engaging diverse communities, and making craft accessible to all.
