Blending Halloween Fun with a Meaningful Mission

What began as a group of Westhaven moms looking to bring neighbors together for a fun Halloween tradition has grown into a beloved community event with a meaningful mission: raising money for the American Cancer Society.

Celebrating its eleventh year in 2026, the Westhaven Witches Ride brings women together to decorate golf carts and bikes, dress in creative costumes, and ride through the neighborhood tossing candy and spreading Halloween cheer. Four years ago, a committee took over organizing the event, continuing the foundation established by its original founders.

“The event represents the very best of our community,” said Amanda Niles, a member of the organizing committee. “We get to have fun, strengthen friendships, honor people we love, and raise money for an important cause all at once.”

Westhaven and Sullivan Farms each host their own Witches Ride, coordinating efforts to support the American Cancer Society while giving each neighborhood’s event its own personality. Fundraising is at the heart of both rides, with participants, sponsors and local businesses helping support the organization’s mission to fight cancer.

This year, Westhaven is expanding the festivities with WitchFest, a pre-ride gathering where participants can show off their costumes, decorated carts and team themes while enjoying time together. A new pickleball tournament for registered riders takes place on October 22nd and will add another opportunity for women to connect and build excitement around the event.

The 2026 ride will also carry special significance as participants honor Debbie Marquez, beloved owner of Fika in Westhaven, who died following a short battle with cancer.

“Cancer touches so many families, and I think this event gives us a way to turn that shared experience into something positive,” Amanda said. “We want this year’s ride to be a tribute to Debbie and a reminder of the impact one person can have on so many people.”

Community members can support the cause even without participating in the ride. Donations, sponsorships, volunteering, and contributions from local businesses all help advance the fundraising effort.

For Amanda, the event’s lasting success comes down to the people behind it. From the women who launched the tradition to the volunteers and sponsors who continue to grow it, the Franklin-area Witches Ride offers a festive reminder that community, friendship and a shared purpose can make a meaningful difference.
