The Doorway to Happiness

A Home Upgrade that Changes Everything - One Day Doors & Closets
If there is one thing I am not lacking in my house – it’s doors. We have so very many doors and multiple doors to every room. My home was built in 1896, and evidently, they needed an escape route from every side... Well, it’s probably more about modern updates in a historic house… but funny, nonetheless. No. No. No. NOT funny. Rather, completely and totally exasperating, since all the doors do appear to be original and/or of that period anyway, and while we have removed many of them to provide for better flow… There are still a few of the doors that truly are ready for a change. One such doorway was the one to my laundry closet. I have a closet, not a room; don’t judge. But those doors… oh lordy me. They unfortunately were not of the historic period but rather some hideously out-of-place louvered, sliding travesty which I have lived with for over a decade. Cursing silently and not so silently, every time I went to do laundry in (my closet) with the ugly louvered doors.
One fine day, not so very long ago, my silent rage spilled into the breakfast room as I decided – yep, these suckers are coming down. And, so, they did. And well, my pique of rage may have produced a successful dismantling of the affront called the #^%$# laundry closet doors – but they did not solve the problem at hand. Enter Johnny... My sometimes enthusiastic, mildly motivated for décor changes, detail-oriented, but sadly completely unskilled, husband handyman. I convinced him a trip to Home Depot was in order because I had a door-replacement plan, and he was just the man to help me carry it out.
To our dismay, the Home Depot door department expert was unconvinced. Actually, there may have been a condescending chuckle and shake of the head as I described how I needed to purchase some premade doors and hinges. Please direct me to aisle twelve. Johnny appeared reticent and altogether sorry he had, once again, allowed me to lead him down the primrose path, which clearly as he nodded in agreement with the door department man, he was already aware was not going to end in the blissful door replacement I had envisioned.
My favorite handyman was no better. He described a treacherous world of saws and uneven doors and days and days and days of paid-by-the-hour work, just to achieve my lofty goal. I was perplexed at all of this strife over something that, in my mind’s eye, was seemingly so simple. And, to add insult to injury, I now got to stare into the beauty that is a laundry closet, day in and day out now, since I had sent the louvered doors to the woodshed. UGH!
One insomnia-plagued night, as I scrolled Facebook with mindless sleeplessness, up popped an ad for what appeared at first glance to be the most pristine and beautiful doors I had seen in recent time. All doors were laughing at me behind my back at this point. As I looked closely and absorbed the messaging: “If You’re Here, You Already Know Your Interior Doors Need an Upgrade. Whether you have outdated styles, cheap hollow doors, or gaps between your frames - you're ready for change. Here’s the good news: you can ditch all of them in one day, without demo, mess, or stress.”
What? A day? No demo, no mess... No STRESS?! “This is the simplest, cleanest, and fastest home upgrade you’ll ever make, and it changes everything.”
Could it be? Was there really a solution to my door dilemma? And as I let my mind wander to the sublime possibilities of these pristine doors actually making it into my home, I decided the hall bath door needed replacing too.

So, I called our local One Day Doors & Closets to find out what indeed could be done for me and if their magical advertising was indeed truth. I knew as soon as I met Kim and James Johnson that I was soon to be the happiest new door owner in town. When you think about doors, any doors, there is, in fact, such a lot that goes into them, and most of the time, my handyman was correct (and Home Depot man too) – you cannot just buy a door and hang it. Most custom-built doors can be, shall we say, outrageously expensive. So, One Day Doors came up with this brilliant plan to custom-fit, measure and create high-quality doors while implementing an efficient installation process that avoids the usual ripping out of door frames and overall messy work.
I kid you not. Once I started the process with them, I was sold. They came to the house and measured; I chose the style and design of the doors I wanted; we matched paint colors to my existing frame and trim, and all I had to do while my doors were ordered and being produced was figure out which doorknobs I wanted. No more louvered sliding doors for me!
It was a few short weeks later when they came to install, and again, no exaggeration needed, they were done in less than an hour, and that’s even with removing the existing metal track from the previous doors and touching up paint where needed on the frame. The doors were in, and they are beautiful. I wasn’t kidding when I told them – the doors literally made me so very happy I could not contain my joy.
And so, should you also be in need of new doors – whether because you tore yours out in a fit of rage or simply because you are replacing old, outdated or cheaply made builder-installed doors; or want to customize the doors in your new build, I recommend One Day Doors & Closets of Nashville without reservation. What an amazing concept, which is actually not rocket science at all, but the answer to everyone’s door replacement nightmare scenario.
