YOUR Williamson County Fair Food Guide
August in the South means one thing… It’s County Fair time!
Fueled by funnel cakes and laughter, the community savors the last few moments of the summer season. The thick heat of Tennessee late in the summer, the joy of kids hopping on the Ferris wheel, the sights and sounds of farm animals and endless competitions and attractions create a week of nostalgic fun for everyone.
Each year, rides go up, contestants practice for pageants, performances are rehearsed and animals arrive, complete with an array of Fair foods that only come around once a year.
One thing’s for sure: The YOUR Williamson team does not skip out on Fair food. In keeping with the theme of this year’s Williamson County Fair, “As American as Apple Pie,” look no further than our team as inspiration for your fair day fuel.
Kettle corn has always been my go-to, as each handful wraps sweet and salty in a light crunch. Classic sweets like cotton candy and caramel apples have been long-standing crowd favorites, whereas turkey legs and deep-fried pickles may be for those with a more cultivated fair food palate. It may come as a shock that, while fried Oreos have been repeatedly recommended to me, I have not yet tried one. Perhaps this is the year where I finally indulge in this beloved sweet treat!
Spotting the food trucks and supporting a local favorite (especially when it comes to coffee!) is one of my favorite parts of the Fair. If that’s you, you’re in luck! You can find a variety of Williamson County favorites at this fair this year.
Stop by Hattie Jane’s Creamery or Fox Fudge to satisfy your sweet tooth, get your afternoon pick-me-up at Pink Cloud Coffee, or cool off with Little Jimmy’s Italian Ices or Sundrop Bottling Co. and so many more. Williamson County is home to some of the best food there is. This year, Fair attendees can vote for their favorites in four categories, which include Best Fair Food, Best Fair Dinner, Best Fair Dessert and Best Fair Beverage. Each item will be scored based on appearance, smell, taste and overall rating.
A Tennessee summer wouldn’t be complete without the Fair. For young families, friend groups, adrenaline junkies and local businesses and farms, the Fair invites the community to appreciate talent and indulge in a food group all its own.
If there’s one thing that a true southerner believes, it’s this: food brings people together, and the Williamson County Fair is no exception.
